Social communication skills are all the skills we need when communicating and engaging with others. An important component is understanding and using non-verbal communication such as eye contact and gesture, as well as responding to ‘unwritten’ social rules and expectations in different situations.

Generally, people develop these skills throughout their childhood as they experience different and progressively more complex social interactions. However, some children have social communication difficulties which can cause them anxiety, confusion or frustration in day to day interactions, especially in situations outside of their comfort zone.

We can work together to support children and young people in the following areas:

  • Communication and interaction needs

  • Autism Spectrum Conditions

  • Friendships and connections with others
